Finnegan’s Raises $10,000 for Charity at ShamROCK! Music Festival

Finnegan's ShamROCK! Logo

Congratulations to Finnegan’s for raising and donating $10,000 to Heading Home Hennepin at its June 7th ShamROCK! festival in Minneapolis. This Twin Cities-based beer company donates all of its profits every year to local charities.

Oh! And anyone who saw the “A Night in the Box” performance at the event was treating to something truly unique and special. The band blew through a powerful set of their classics and new songs, complete with head-ripping guitar solos, gut-wrenching vocals, and an attitude that says, “It’s 1940, bitches!” GO SEE THIS FUCKING BAND, MAN!!!

Our first ever Lunch of Champions Band of the Week: Askeleton

Posted by Sam on Monday, June 9th, 2008

Askeleton - Band of the Week

The first of anything always feels a bit momentous to me. A good first and you’re golden, a bad first and you’re crap.

With that in mind, I think I’ve got a good first for you all. This week, for our first Band of the Week, I give you…

Do we need a drum roll or something?

The Twin Cities’ own Askeleton!

Askeleton is a great band. Touting their own lack of commercial viability with pride (no really, read their myspace), their artistic vision is uncompromising. Everything they play live and everything they record is all done completely without pressure to succeed, make a profit, or even sound like anything other than what the band wants to sound like. This could be a formula for musical murder, but what they come out with is so articulate and interesting. Perhaps a good way to describe it is what pop rock would sound like if it ever grew up.

They just came out with a new record called the Personalization. The record is a bit difficult to track down, so you might have to pick it up at one of their shows. It’s a vinyl-only release with a free digital download included. The album is, well, it’s exactly what it should sound like.

So Askeleton, we solute you!

Barack Obama in St. Paul Last Night

Posted by Toby on Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Barack Obama is, without a doubt, the most exciting political candidate I have ever seen in my life. He truly is bringing a different tone to American politics. I was lucky enough to be in St. Paul, MN last night when he gave his victory speech, and I must say that being there was like being at a rock concert. The people were pumped, there were t-shirts being sold, and there were deafening cheers. Here’s the speech:
