Askeleton - Band of the Week

The first of anything always feels a bit momentous to me. A good first and you’re golden, a bad first and you’re crap.

With that in mind, I think I’ve got a good first for you all. This week, for our first Band of the Week, I give you…

Do we need a drum roll or something?

The Twin Cities’ own Askeleton!

Askeleton is a great band. Touting their own lack of commercial viability with pride (no really, read their myspace), their artistic vision is uncompromising. Everything they play live and everything they record is all done completely without pressure to succeed, make a profit, or even sound like anything other than what the band wants to sound like. This could be a formula for musical murder, but what they come out with is so articulate and interesting. Perhaps a good way to describe it is what pop rock would sound like if it ever grew up.

They just came out with a new record called the Personalization. The record is a bit difficult to track down, so you might have to pick it up at one of their shows. It’s a vinyl-only release with a free digital download included. The album is, well, it’s exactly what it should sound like.

So Askeleton, we solute you!
